DAY 34: BIG SUR & THE BIXBY CREEK BRIDGE

Today we checked out of Monterey and hit the road towards Pismo Beach – which involved a LONG drive down Highway 1 and through an area called Big Sur that was probably my favourite drive of the trip so far!

Specifically, when we pulled over at the Bixby Creek Bridge and took in the views there.

I swear I could have stayed there all day just looking out at the sea and then back to the bridge all the time! Also, driving over that bridge was equal parts terrifying and terrific.

After that we carried on driving down, and made another quick stop when we saw tons of sea lions just sat on a beach!

Eventually, we made it to Pismo Beach. A nice hotel and even better restaurants nearby was a great welcome to the area! We chilled out at the beach in the afternoon until we saw the sun set:

Afterwards, we headed off for dinner where I was adventurous and decided to try Mako Shark. (Gary, if you’re reading this, I was totally swayed towards this option because of FFVII‘s mako! Figured I might get mako poisoning!)

Turns out shark is actually pretty nice!! Who knew! I’d totally get it again.

We headed back to our hotel and I finished the night off doing washing. That’s definitely the WORST thing about travelling long-term!
